Electronic Fluorescent Starters
Fluorescent lamps are commonly supplied with 'glow-starters'. Glow-starters,
although inexpensive, do not allow for the efficient starting of fluorescent
tubes and are characterised by flickering on start-up and when the tube or other
lamp components are beginning to fail. The inefficient starting process of
glow-starters significantly shortens the potential life of the tube, often seen
as the blackening at the tube ends from deposits of the cathode filament.
Electronic starters offer a number of advantages:
optimum pre-heat time for warm tube start and maximum tube life (pre-heating is essential to reduce the wear
effect of normal starting procedures)
absolute flicker free and smooth start of fluorescent lamps (even at reduced
supply voltages and temperatures down to minus 20°C)
no need for replacement of starters (10 Year Replacement Warranty with a life expectancy in excess of 20 years)
tube life is at least doubled
reduced ongoing costs for maintenance and replacement of tubes and starters
automatic safety shut-down when lamp fails
full thermal and constant circuit safety monitor
lamp condition monitor with full safety shutdown protects the whole system from failure
(a problem with some T5 luminaire)
very low EMI during start (less than /-70 db compared to glow starters)
no residual current unlike conventional glow starters
economic and environmentally friendly (extended tube life reduces the
amount of waste from tubes, particularly mercury)

Complementary to BMASS Power Saver
Electronic starters for fluorescent lighting is a complementary technology to BMASS Power Saver.
Electronic starters are efficient devices that significantly extend the life of
fluorescent tubes and ensure that fluorescent tubes are started
efficiently every time.
