BMASS Energy Saving Solutions is an authorised distributor for OKOSTART Electronic Starters for fluorescent lamps and Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight triphosphor fluorescent tubes.

Electronic Fluorescent Starters

Fluorescent lamps are commonly supplied with 'glow-starters'. Glow-starters, although inexpensive, do not allow for the efficient starting of fluorescent tubes and are characterised by flickering on start-up and when the tube or other lamp components are beginning to fail. The inefficient starting process of glow-starters significantly shortens the potential life of the tube, often seen as the blackening at the tube ends from deposits of the cathode filament. Electronic starters offer a number of advantages:

  • optimum pre-heat time for warm tube start and maximum tube life (pre-heating is essential to reduce the wear effect of normal starting procedures)
  • absolute flicker free and smooth start of fluorescent lamps (even at reduced supply voltages and temperatures down to minus 20°C)
  • no need for replacement of starters (10 Year Replacement Warranty with a life expectancy in excess of 20 years)
  • tube life is at least doubled
  • reduced ongoing costs for maintenance and replacement of tubes and starters
  • automatic safety shut-down when lamp fails
  • full thermal and constant circuit safety monitor
  • lamp condition monitor with full safety shutdown protects the whole system from failure (a problem with some T5 luminaire)
  • very low EMI during start (less than /-70 db compared to glow starters)
  • no residual current unlike conventional glow starters
  • economic and environmentally friendly (extended tube life reduces the amount of waste from tubes, particularly mercury)
  • C Tick N15397 against AS/NZS CISPR 15:2002 - compliance with Australian EMC framework

    Triphosphor Fluorescent Tubes

Good quality lighting in the work area is important for workplace health and safety. Standard 'cool-white' fluorescent tubes provide an artificial light output that is prone to discolouration and a rapid depreciation in lumen output (brightness). Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight fluorescent tubes provide a natural or daylight output which enhances the work area, providing a brighter and more natural environment, reducing the glare common with computer screens and staff fatigue associated with poor lighting.

The Radium Spectralux Daylight range of triphosphor fluorescent tubes can outlast nearly all competitor brands simply due to their quality design and construction. Improved phosphor coatings within the fluorescent tube ensure brightness is maintained throughout their rated life of 20,000 hours. In fact Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight tubes, when measured lost only 12% of their brightness (lumens) over 20,000 hours. This means that unlike inferior lamps the Radium tube won't go dull 6 or 12 months after purchase. All Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight fluorescent tubes comply to AS/NZS 4782.1 and AS/NZS 4782.2 and are approved for use in Australia (see www.energyrating.gov.au).

Lumen (light output) Depreciation over 20,000 Hours

Key advantages of the Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade daylight fluorescent tubes:

  • minimal lumen depreciation over 20,000 hour rated life (before considering the benefits of an electronic starter)
  • quality natural light output enhancing the work environment for staff and clients
  • significantly reduced environmental waste
  • Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight fluorescent tubes are available in the following standard lengths:

  • 600 mm   (18W)
  • 1200 mm (36W and most common)
  • 1500 mm (58W)
  • Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight fluorescent tubes are manufactured in Germany to the highest standards and quality by Radium. Radium tubes have been sold throughout Australia for many years. View the Radium Quality Certificate.

Combine OKOSTART Electronic Starter and Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade Daylight Fluorescent Tube

The combination of OKOSTART Electronic Starters for fluorescent tubes and Radium Spectralux daylight fluorescent tubes will:

  • significantly reduce lighting maintenance costs
  • stop costly call-outs of contractors to replace flickering tubes
  • enhance the work environment with quality natural light
  • at least double the expected life of fluorescent tubes
  • stop the need to replace glow starters when replacing fluorescent tubes
  • improve lighting safety
  • Install OKOSTART electronic starters and Radium Spectralux Hi-Grade daylight fluorescent tubes together and receive a five (5) year / 20,000 hour replacement guarantee on the triphosphor fluorescent tube. OKOSTART electronic starters already come with a 10 year replacement warranty.

(BMASS warrants the tubes against burn out and/or failure caused by normal use from the date of tax invoice. Our replacement guarantee does not cover tubes or starters that have failed/burnt out due to faulty lighting equipment (such as ballasts), fire or physical damage, or any other external force deliberate or accidental.)

    Complementary to BMASS Power Saver

Electronic starters and triphosphor tubes for fluorescent lighting are complementary technologies to BMASS Power Saver. Electronic starters are efficient devices that significantly extend the life of fluorescent tubes and ensure that fluorescent tubes are started efficiently every time. Triphosphor fluorescent tubes have a much higher lighting efficiency with increased efficacy (lm/w) of around 20%, longer life and reduced disposal waste.
